Isosorbide Mononitrate acts as a vasodilator by relaxing vascular smooth muscle, leading to the dilation of peripheral veins and arteries, which reduces myocardial oxygen demand and alleviates chest pain.

The sustained-release formulation ensures a prolonged therapeutic effect, maintaining stable plasma drug levels and minimizing the frequency of dosing. Isonorm 30 SR is indicated for prophylactic treatment rather than acute angina attacks and should be used under medical supervision. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to nitrates, severe anemia, hypotension, or increased intracranial pressure.
Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, flushing, and hypotension, which generally diminish with continued use. Caution is advised when administered concomitantly with phosphodiesterase inhibitors due to the risk of severe hypotension. Dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and clinical response is recommended to optimize therapy and ensure patient safety.
