Iopar-SR Capsule contains Acetazolamide 250 mg, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor primarily used in the management of glaucoma, epilepsy, altitude sickness, and certain cases of edema. By inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, Acetazolamide reduces the formation of aqueous humor in the eye, thereby lowering intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or secondary glaucoma.

Additionally, it promotes renal bicarbonate diuresis, which contributes to its use in treating metabolic alkalosis and edema associated with congestive heart failure or drug-induced fluid retention. In neurology, Acetazolamide is employed as an adjunctive therapy for certain types of epilepsy, particularly absence seizures, due to its ability to modulate neuronal excitability.
It is also effective in preventing and alleviating symptoms of acute mountain sickness by correcting acid-base balance and improving oxygen delivery.
