Infomet 500mg Tablet SR is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, particularly in overweight patients and those whose hyperglycemia is inadequately controlled by diet alone. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, including insulin. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, which often diminish with continued use.
Lactic acidosis, although rare, is a serious adverse effect requiring immediate medical attention. Contraindications include renal impairment, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, and conditions predisposing to hypoxia. Regular monitoring of renal function and glycemic parameters is recommended during therapy to ensure safety and efficacy.
