Infimox-CV 500/125 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, indicated for the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic, acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Amoxycillin by preventing enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby extending the antibacterial spectrum. Infimox-CV is effective against infections caused by susceptible strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. The combination is particularly useful in cases where resistance to Amoxycillin alone is suspected due to beta-lactamase production. The recommended dosage and duration of therapy depend on the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as age and renal function. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and rash. Infimox-CV should be used under medical supervision to ensure appropriate use and to minimize the risk of resistance development.
