Huminsulin N 100IU/ml Injection contains Insulin Isophane 100IU as its active ingredient, formulated for the management of diabetes mellitus requiring insulin therapy. This intermediate-acting insulin preparation is designed to provide a sustained glucose-lowering effect by forming a suspension of insulin crystals with protamine, which delays absorption and prolongs action. Huminsulin N is indicated for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and for those with type 2 diabetes mellitus when oral hypoglycemic agents are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control. The onset of action typically occurs within 1 to 2 hours after subcutaneous administration, with peak effects observed between 4 to 12 hours and a duration of action lasting up to 24 hours, allowing for once or twice daily dosing depending on individual patient requirements. Dosage must be individualized based on patient’s metabolic needs, blood glucose monitoring, and lifestyle factors. Huminsulin N should be administered subcutaneously and is not intended for intravenous use. Patients should be advised on proper injection techniques and rotation of injection sites to minimize lipodystrophy. Hypoglycemia is the most common adverse effect and requires patient education on recognition and management.
