Hipod 50 Oral Suspension contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, at a concentration of 50mg per 5ml. It is indicated for the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media caused by susceptible organisms. Cefpodoxime Proxetil acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death, thereby exhibiting bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The oral suspension formulation facilitates ease of administration, particularly in pediatric and geriatric patients who may have difficulty swallowing tablets. Hipod 50 is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is hydrolyzed to the active form, cefpodoxime, which achieves therapeutic concentrations in various body tissues and fluids. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, patient age, and renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain, as well as hypersensitivity reactions in susceptible individuals. Use of Hipod 50 Oral Suspension should be guided by culture and sensitivity testing where possible to minimize the development of antibiotic resistance. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.
