Clavulanic Acid (125mg) + Amoxycillin (500mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Amoxycillin inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and death.
Medical applications
Hificlav 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that inactivate amoxycillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protects amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation, thereby extending its antibacterial spectrum. Hificlav 625 is indicated for the management of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, sinusitis, and dental infections caused by susceptible organisms. It is particularly effective against beta-lactamase-producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli. The usual adult dosage involves oral administration every 8 to 12 hours, adjusted based on infection severity and renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy or hepatic impairment. Hificlav 625 should be used under medical supervision to ensure appropriate use and to minimize the development of antibiotic resistance.
