Clavulanic Acid (125mg) + Amoxycillin (250mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Amoxycillin inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and death.
Medical applications
Hificlav 375 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 250 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that inactivate amoxycillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protecting amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation and thereby extending its antimicrobial spectrum. Hificlav 375 is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. The combination is effective against beta-lactamase producing organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli. It is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored to the severity and type of infection. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur in penicillin-sensitive individuals. Caution is advised in patients with a history of allergy to beta-lactams, and renal or hepatic impairment. Hificlav 375 should be used under medical supervision with adherence to prescribed dosage to minimize resistance development.
