Hicxamet SR 1000 Tablet contains Metformin 1000 mg, a biguanide class oral antihyperglycemic agent used primarily in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It functions by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving insulin sensitivity by enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This sustained-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, promoting better patient compliance and maintaining more stable plasma drug concentrations.

Hicxamet SR 1000 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, particularly in overweight patients or those who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with lifestyle modifications alone. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, including insulin. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and a metallic taste, which often diminish with continued use.
Rare but serious adverse effects include lactic acidosis, especially in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or conditions predisposing to hypoxia. Therefore, renal function should be assessed prior to initiation and periodically thereafter. Hicxamet SR 1000 should be used cautiously in patients with contraindications such as severe renal or hepatic impairment, and during conditions associated with increased risk of lactic acidosis.

Hicxamet SR 1000 Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

Hicxamet SR 1000 Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.

Hicxamet SR 1000 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Hicxamet SR 1000 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Use of Hicxamet SR 1000 Tablet is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is too low or too high. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
