Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug that, upon absorption, is converted to the active form cefpodoxime, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. Clavulanic Acid enhances the efficacy of cefpodoxime by irreversibly inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby preventing antibiotic degradation. This combination is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens, including strains resistant to other beta-lactam antibiotics.
