Hepfav 5000IU Injection contains Heparin 5000 International Units (IU) as its active ingredient, an anticoagulant widely used to prevent and treat thromboembolic disorders. Heparin acts by potentiating the activity of antithrombin III, thereby inhibiting thrombin and factor Xa, which are critical components in the blood coagulation cascade. This mechanism effectively prevents the formation and extension of blood clots. Hepfav 5000IU Injection is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, atrial fibrillation with embolization risk, and during extracorporeal circulation such as hemodialysis or cardiac surgery. It is also utilized in the management of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The dosage and duration of therapy should be individualized based on the patient’s clinical condition and monitored using activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) or other coagulation tests to minimize the risk of bleeding complications. Contraindications include active bleeding, severe thrombocytopenia, and hypersensitivity to heparin. Caution is advised in patients with a history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).
