HCS Eye Ointment is a sterile ophthalmic preparation containing Chloramphenicol 1% w/w and Hydrocortisone 0.5% w/w, formulated for the treatment of bacterial infections accompanied by inflammatory conditions of the eye. Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and thereby controlling infection. Hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid, exerts anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, reducing ocular inflammation, redness, swelling, and discomfort. This combination is indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and other superficial ocular infections where inflammation is present. HCS Eye Ointment should be applied as directed by a healthcare professional, typically instilled into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily, ensuring strict aseptic technique to avoid contamination. Caution is advised in patients with viral, fungal, or mycobacterial eye infections, as corticosteroids may exacerbate these conditions. Prolonged use should be avoided to prevent potential side effects such as increased intraocular pressure, cataract formation, or delayed wound healing. Patients should be monitored regularly during therapy. HCS Eye Ointment is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to any component and should be used with caution in pregnant or lactating women.
