Cefpodoxime Proxetil inhibits the transpeptidation enzyme involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis.
Medical applications
Gudcef-CV 200 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed for the treatment of a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation oral cephalosporin, exhibits bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby effectively targeting both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Clavulanic Acid, a potent beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Cefpodoxime by preventing enzymatic degradation of the antibiotic, particularly against beta-lactamase producing resistant strains. This synergistic combination is indicated for infections such as respiratory tract infections (including bronchitis and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, and sinusitis. Gudcef-CV 200 is administered orally and is generally well tolerated; however, it should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. Dosage and duration of therapy should be guided by the severity of infection and renal function status. It is essential to complete the prescribed course to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.
