Gramocef-O 50 Dry Syrup contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, at a concentration of 50mg per 5ml. It is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, and gonorrhea. Cefixime exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. The dry syrup formulation is particularly suitable for pediatric patients and those who have difficulty swallowing tablets. After reconstitution, Gramocef-O 50 Dry Syrup should be administered orally as per the prescribed dosage regimen, which varies depending on the severity and type of infection, as well as patient age and weight. It is generally well tolerated, with common adverse effects including gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. Hypersensitivity reactions, although rare, may occur and warrant immediate discontinuation of therapy. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy.
