It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections caused by susceptible strains, including respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhea. Cefixime exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. The tablet is designed as a dispersible tablet (DT), allowing rapid disintegration in the oral cavity, facilitating ease of administration without water, which is particularly beneficial for pediatric and geriatric patients. Gramocef-O demonstrates efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, and Proteus species. It is generally well tolerated, with common adverse effects including gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort.
