This formulation integrates three complementary mechanisms of action to improve glycemic control. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to enhance insulin secretion. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, further enhances insulin sensitivity by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), promoting glucose uptake in adipose tissue and muscle.
