Glyphase M2 Tablet SR is a combination oral hypoglycemic agent containing Glimepiride 2 mg and Metformin 500 mg, formulated for sustained release to provide effective glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class drug, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to enhance insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to better glucose uptake and utilization. The sustained-release formulation allows for a gradual absorption, minimizing gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with metformin and improving patient compliance through once or twice-daily dosing.
