Gluformin XL New 1000 Tablet PR contains Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg, an oral antihyperglycemic agent used primarily in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to the biguanide class and functions by improving glucose tolerance through decreased hepatic glucose production, decreased intestinal absorption of glucose, and increased peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.

Gluformin XL New 1000 is formulated as an extended-release tablet, allowing for once-daily dosing, which enhances patient compliance and provides a more stable plasma concentration of metformin. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents. The extended-release formulation may reduce gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with immediate-release metformin.
Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or conditions predisposing to hypoxia, as these may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious adverse effect. Regular monitoring of renal function and glycemic parameters is recommended during therapy. Gluformin XL New 1000 should be used under medical supervision, with appropriate lifestyle modifications to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
