Gluconorm-Z XR 60 Tablet is an oral antidiabetic medication formulated with a combination of Gliclazide 60 mg and Metformin 500 mg, designed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Gliclazide, a sulfonylurea class agent, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to enhance insulin secretion, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and increasing peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to improved glucose uptake and utilization.

This extended-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, promoting better patient compliance and stable plasma drug concentrations. Gluconorm-Z XR 60 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled by either agent alone. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, diabetic ketoacidosis, or known hypersensitivity to its components.
Caution is advised in patients with hepatic dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, or conditions predisposing to hypoxia. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, renal function, and potential adverse effects such as hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal disturbances is recommended. This combination therapy offers a synergistic approach to glycemic management, optimizing efficacy while minimizing side effects associated with higher doses of individual agents.

Gluconorm-Z XR 60 Tablet is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

Gluconorm-Z XR 60 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Use of Gluconorm-Z XR 60 Tablet is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.
