Glitaray MP 2mg/500mg/15mg Tablet PR is a combination oral hypoglycemic agent containing Glimepiride 2mg, Metformin 500mg, and Pioglitazone 15mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This formulation harnesses the complementary mechanisms of action of its components to achieve optimal glycemic control. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to enhanced glucose uptake and utilization. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), which modulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. The combined effect of these agents addresses multiple pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes, including insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion.
