Glimfirst-MP 2 Tablet SR is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride (2mg), Metformin (500mg), and Pioglitazone (15mg), formulated to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class agent, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to enhance insulin secretion. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, enhances insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ). The sustained-release formulation ensures a gradual release of active ingredients, promoting better patient compliance and minimizing gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with Metformin.
