Glimestar-PM1 Tablet ER is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride 1mg, Metformin 500mg, and Pioglitazone 15mg, formulated as an extended-release tablet for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and enhancing peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to improved glucose uptake and utilization. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, further enhances insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ).
