Glimestar-M2 Forte Tablet PR is a combination oral antihyperglycemic agent containing Glimepiride (2mg) and Metformin (1000mg), indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class drug, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to release insulin, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production, enhancing peripheral glucose uptake, and improving insulin sensitivity.

This dual mechanism addresses both insulin secretion and insulin resistance, making Glimestar-M2 Forte effective in achieving optimal blood glucose levels in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. The prolonged-release formulation ensures a steady plasma concentration, reducing the risk of hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with immediate-release metformin.
Glimestar-M2 Forte should be administered once daily with meals to enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. It is contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or conditions predisposing to lactic acidosis. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, renal function, and lactic acid levels is recommended during therapy. This combination therapy should be used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan, including diet, exercise, and weight control, to reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.
