Glimerit-Plus Tablet ER is an extended-release oral antihyperglycemic agent combining Glimepiride 1mg and Metformin 1000mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby enhancing endogenous insulin levels, while Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. This dual mechanism effectively aids in achieving and maintaining glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. The extended-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, improving patient compliance and minimizing gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with immediate-release metformin. Glimerit-Plus is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and conditions predisposing to hypoxia.
