This combination is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients inadequately controlled on diet, exercise, and monotherapy. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake by muscle tissues. Voglibose, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, delays carbohydrate absorption in the intestines, reducing postprandial hyperglycemia.
