Glimbio-G 2 Tablet PR is a combination oral antihyperglycemic agent containing Glimepiride 2 mg and Metformin 500 mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class drug, enhances pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production, improving peripheral glucose uptake, and enhancing insulin sensitivity.

The synergistic action of these two agents effectively reduces both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. Glimbio-G 2 Tablet PR is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to achieve optimal glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy. It is particularly beneficial in patients with insulin resistance and diminished beta-cell function. The prolonged-release formulation ensures sustained plasma concentrations, promoting better compliance and minimizing gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with Metformin.
Caution is advised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, cardiovascular disease, or predisposition to lactic acidosis. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, renal function, and potential hypoglycemic episodes is recommended during therapy.
