Gliclavac-M Tablet is a combination oral hypoglycemic agent containing Gliclazide 80 mg and Metformin 500 mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Gliclazide, a sulfonylurea class drug, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by reducing hepatic glucose production and enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization, contributing to improved insulin sensitivity. The synergistic action of these two agents helps in achieving better blood glucose regulation in patients inadequately controlled by diet, exercise, and monotherapy. Gliclavac-M is particularly beneficial in patients with insulin resistance and those who require dual therapy to attain target glycemic levels. It should be administered with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with Metformin. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or cardiovascular disease.
