Glibenaid 5 Tablet contains Glibenclamide 5mg, an oral hypoglycemic agent belonging to the sulfonylurea class, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It functions by stimulating pancreatic beta cells to release insulin, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Glibenclamide is typically prescribed when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone have not achieved adequate glycemic control.

The medication is administered orally, usually once or twice daily, with dosage tailored to individual patient response and glycemic targets. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment, as metabolism and excretion may be affected. Common adverse effects include hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and epigastric discomfort, and, rarely, hematologic reactions.
Patients should be educated on recognizing hypoglycemia symptoms and advised to maintain regular meal patterns to minimize risk. Glibenaid 5 should be used under strict medical supervision, particularly in elderly patients or those with comorbid conditions. It is contraindicated in type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, and during pregnancy or lactation. Regular monitoring of blood glucose and periodic assessment of renal and hepatic function are recommended to ensure safety and efficacy during treatment.

Use of Glibenaid 5 Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease. They can experience very low blood sugar levels while taking this medicine.

Glibenaid 5 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. Monitor the breastfed baby’s blood sugar during treatment with Glibenaid 5 Tablet
