Gemer P 2 Tablet ER is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride (2mg), Metformin (500mg), and Pioglitazone (15mg), designed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class agent, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake in muscle tissues. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ), which modulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. The extended-release formulation allows for sustained drug delivery, promoting better glycemic control with reduced dosing frequency and improved patient compliance. Gemer P 2 Tablet ER is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled by diet, exercise, and monotherapy.
