It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin or insulin. The medication should be taken once daily with breakfast or the first main meal to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. Common side effects include hypoglycemia, dizziness, headache, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea or abdominal discomfort.
