Active composition
Itraconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity.
Medical applications
Zoritraz-Forte Capsule contains Itraconazole 200 mg, a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal agent used for the treatment of various systemic and superficial fungal infections. Itraconazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-α-demethylase, which is essential for the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes.
This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Zoritraz-Forte is indicated for the management of infections such as blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, onychomycosis, and other dermatophytic infections. It is particularly useful in patients who are intolerant or unresponsive to other antifungal therapies. The capsule formulation ensures optimal bioavailability and ease of administration.
Dosage and duration of therapy should be tailored according to the type and severity of infection, as well as patient response. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, and periodic liver function monitoring is recommended during prolonged therapy. Zoritraz-Forte should be used under medical supervision due to potential drug interactions and contraindications, including concurrent use with certain CYP3A4 substrates.
Adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and rash.
