Naphazoline (0.02% w/v)
Active composition
Naphazoline activates alpha-adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction and reduced blood flow to the conjunctiva.
Medical applications
Zincula Eye Drop contains Naphazoline 0.02% w/v, a sympathomimetic agent primarily used as a topical ocular decongestant. It acts by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the conjunctival blood vessels, resulting in vasoconstriction and subsequent reduction of redness and ocular congestion. This medication is indicated for the temporary relief of redness and minor irritation of the eyes caused by exposure to wind, sun, smoke, or other environmental factors. Zincula Eye Drop is intended for short-term use and should not be used for more than 72 hours continuously to avoid rebound hyperemia or potential adverse effects. It is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, hypersensitivity to naphazoline, or other sympathomimetic agents. Caution is advised in individuals with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, or thyroid disorders. Adverse reactions may include transient burning or stinging upon instillation, pupil dilation, and rarely, systemic effects such as increased blood pressure or headache. Patients should avoid contact lens use during treatment unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional. Proper administration involves instilling one or two drops into the affected eye(s) up to four times daily as needed. Consultation with an ophthalmologist is recommended if symptoms persist beyond 72 hours.
