Itraconazole (200mg)
Active composition
Itraconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity.
Medical applications
Zentroz 200 Capsule contains Itraconazole 200 mg, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the triazole class. It is indicated for the treatment of various systemic and superficial fungal infections caused by susceptible strains, including aspergillosis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, onychomycosis, and candidiasis. Itraconazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-α-demethylase, which is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Zentroz 200 Capsule is administered orally and is well-absorbed in the presence of gastric acid; therefore, it is recommended to be taken with food to enhance bioavailability. The drug undergoes extensive hepatic metabolism primarily via CYP3A4 and has a half-life of approximately 24-42 hours. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment or congestive heart failure. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and rash. Due to potential drug interactions, especially with medications metabolized by CYP3A4, careful monitoring is essential. Zentroz 200 Capsule should be prescribed and used under medical supervision to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes and minimize adverse effects.
