Xval-OD 500 is effective in managing generalized and partial seizures, reducing the frequency and severity of manic episodes in bipolar disorder, and preventing migraine attacks. It should be administered under medical supervision with dosage adjustments based on clinical response and tolerability. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness, and weight gain, while serious risks involve hepatotoxicity, pancreatitis, and teratogenicity; therefore, regular monitoring of liver function tests, pancreatic enzymes, and blood counts is recommended.
Use is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to valproate compounds, hepatic impairment, or urea cycle disorders. Caution is advised during pregnancy and lactation.
