Each 5 ml of syrup contains Phenylephrine 5 mg, a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a nasal decongestant by constricting dilated blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing nasal congestion. Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2 mg, an antihistamine with anticholinergic properties, helps alleviate allergic symptoms including sneezing, rhinorrhea, and itching by blocking H1 histamine receptors. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 15 mg serves as a centrally acting antitussive agent, suppressing the cough reflex by acting on the medullary cough center without depressing respiratory function. Xrate-DX Syrup is indicated for temporary relief of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and cough due to colds or allergies. It should be used with caution in patients with hypertension, glaucoma, or prostatic hypertrophy. Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
