Rosuvastatin (20mg)
Active composition
Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, decreasing cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increasing LDL receptor expression.
Medical applications
Xemostatin 20 Tablet contains Rosuvastatin 20 mg, a potent lipid-lowering agent belonging to the statin class of medications. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to reduce elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides, while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Rosuvastatin acts by selectively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, leading to decreased hepatic cholesterol production and increased clearance of LDL particles from the bloodstream. Xemostatin 20 is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and lifestyle modifications, including exercise and weight control, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina in patients with or at risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The tablet is typically administered once daily, with or without food, and dosage adjustments should be individualized based on therapeutic response and tolerability. Common adverse effects may include headache, myalgia, abdominal pain, and nausea, with rare but serious risks such as myopathy and hepatotoxicity requiring regular monitoring of liver function tests and creatine kinase levels. Xemostatin 20 is contraindicated in active liver disease, pregnancy, and lactation. Caution is advised when used concomitantly with other lipid-lowering agents or drugs metabolized via the cytochrome P450 system.
