Xafinact 100 Tablet contains Safinamide 100mg, a selective and reversible monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibitor indicated for the adjunctive treatment of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease in patients experiencing “off” episodes while on levodopa/carbidopa therapy. Safinamide enhances dopaminergic activity by inhibiting the breakdown of dopamine in the brain, thereby improving motor function and reducing fluctuations in motor symptoms.

Additionally, it exhibits non-dopaminergic properties, including modulation of glutamate release, which may contribute to its therapeutic effects. Xafinact 100 is administered orally, typically once daily, and should be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional experienced in Parkinson’s disease management. Common adverse effects may include dyskinesia, nausea, dizziness, and insomnia, while serious side effects are rare but warrant immediate medical attention.
Caution is advised when co-administered with other MAO inhibitors, serotonergic drugs, or sympathomimetic agents due to the risk of hypertensive crisis or serotonin syndrome. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with hepatic impairment. Xafinact 100 should not be used in patients with severe hepatic impairment or known hypersensitivity to Safinamide.
