Oxymetazoline is a selective alpha-adrenergic agonist that acts on the alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, causing vasoconstriction of the dilated blood vessels. This vasoconstriction reduces mucosal edema and nasal congestion, facilitating easier breathing through the nasal passages. Oxyvil P Nasal Drop provides rapid onset of action, typically within minutes, and its effects may last for up to 12 hours. It is intended for short-term use, generally not exceeding 3 to 5 consecutive days, to avoid the risk of rebound congestion or rhinitis medicamentosa. The product is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or any component of the formulation.
