Oxeltra 150mg Tablet contains Oxcarbazepine, an anticonvulsant indicated for the management of partial seizures in adults and children aged 4 years and above. Oxcarbazepine acts by stabilizing hyperexcited neural membranes, inhibiting repetitive neuronal firing, and reducing the propagation of seizure activity. It is structurally related to carbamazepine but exhibits a different pharmacokinetic profile, resulting in fewer drug interactions and a more favorable side effect profile.

Oxeltra is administered orally, with dosing individualized based on clinical response and tolerability. Common adverse effects include dizziness, somnolence, headache, nausea, and hyponatremia, necessitating periodic monitoring of serum sodium levels during therapy. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to carbamazepine or oxcarbazepine, as cross-reactivity may occur.
Oxeltra should be used with care in patients with hepatic or renal impairment, and gradual dose titration is recommended to minimize adverse effects. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Oxeltra may interact with other antiepileptic drugs and hormonal contraceptives, potentially altering their efficacy.
