Fluconazole (50mg)
Active composition
Fluconazole inhibits the enzyme lanosterol demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis and compromising fungal cell membrane integrity.
Medical applications
Onecan 50mg Tablet contains Fluconazole, an antifungal agent belonging to the triazole class, indicated for the treatment and prevention of a variety of fungal infections. Fluconazole exerts its effect by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, which is essential for converting lanosterol to ergosterol, a critical component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Onecan 50mg is commonly prescribed for oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis, vaginal candidiasis, and systemic candidiasis, as well as for prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients at risk of fungal infections. The tablet is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored to the specific infection and patient condition. Fluconazole is generally well tolerated; however, potential adverse effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and, rarely, hepatotoxicity or QT prolongation. Caution is advised in patients with liver impairment or those receiving concomitant medications that may interact via cytochrome P450 pathways. Monitoring liver function tests during prolonged therapy is recommended. Onecan 50mg should be used under medical supervision to ensure appropriate use and to minimize the risk of resistance development.
