Olanzapine, an atypical antipsychotic, modulates the activity of dopamine and serotonin receptors, helping to alleviate psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and mood disturbances. The combination of these agents provides a synergistic effect, addressing both the depressive and psychotic components of the disorder. Olay Plus is indicated for patients who have not responded adequately to antidepressant therapy alone.
It should be administered under strict medical supervision, with dosage adjustments based on clinical response and tolerability. Common side effects may include weight gain, sedation, dry mouth, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
