It is primarily indicated for the treatment of various intestinal protozoan infections such as Giardiasis and Cryptosporidiosis, as well as for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by Entamoeba histolytica. Nitazoxanide is also used to treat acute uncomplicated Balantidiasis and for the reduction of diarrhea duration in travelers with diarrhea.
