Montelukast selectively antagonizes leukotriene receptors, inhibiting their effects on bronchoconstriction and inflammation.
Medical applications
Montexy-LC Tablet is a combination medication containing 5mg of Levocetirizine, a potent antihistamine, and 10mg of Montelukast, a potent leukotriene receptor antagonist. It is indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria. Levocetirizine, an active metabolite of cetirizine, exhibits high-affinity binding to the H1 receptor, resulting in potent antihistaminic effects, including relief from symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, and hives. Montelukast, a cysteinyl leukotriene (CysLT1) receptor antagonist, inhibits the action of leukotriene D4 (LTD4), a potent mediator of inflammation and bronchoconstriction. This combination provides rapid and sustained relief from symptoms, including nasal congestion, cough, and wheezing. Montexy-LC Tablet is available in a tablet form for oral administration, with the recommended dose being one tablet once daily. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components, and caution is advised in patients with liver disease or kidney impairment.
