Monolith 300mg Tablet is a prescription-only medication containing lithium carbonate, a mood stabilizer used to treat bipolar disorder, unipolar depression, and certain anxiety disorders. This medication is indicated for the acute and maintenance treatment of episodes of unipolar depression, and the prevention of recurrent episodes of depression. Monolith is also used to treat manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder, as well as to prevent recurrence of manic or mixed episodes. The recommended starting dose is 300mg twice daily, with upward titration as needed. The maximum recommended daily dose is 600mg. During the initiation of therapy, patients should be closely monitored for the emergence of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition. Concomitant use of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) is contraindicated. Monolith may also interact with certain medications, such as diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and beta-blockers. Common side effects include tremors, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. As with all medications, patients should consult their healthcare provider before taking Monolith, especially if they have a history of kidney or liver disease, or if they are taking certain medications.
