Microvir 500 Tablet is a prescription medication containing 500mg of Famciclovir, an antiviral agent used to treat and suppress herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles. It works by inhibiting the replication of viral DNA, thereby reducing the severity and duration of symptoms. The tablet is indicated for initial episodes and chronic suppression of HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections, as well as for the treatment of chickenpox and herpes zoster (shingles). The recommended adult dose is one tablet twice daily for 7-10 days, with or without food. Microvir 500 Tablet is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Famciclovir or other nucleosides, as well as in pregnant women. The most common adverse reactions include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Patients with compromised kidney function may require dose adjustments.
