Fusidic Acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with the function of elongation factor G, thereby preventing bacterial growth.
Mometasone inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators, reducing inflammation and immune response.
Medical applications
Metobind-F Cream is a topical formulation combining Mometasone furoate (0.1% w/w), a potent corticosteroid, with Fusidic Acid (2% w/w), a bacteriostatic antibiotic. This combination is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses complicated by or at risk of secondary bacterial infections. Mometasone exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines, thereby reducing erythema, edema, and itching.
Fusidic Acid acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, primarily targeting Gram-positive organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains. The dual action of Metobind-F Cream facilitates rapid resolution of inflammation and eradication of superficial bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as infected eczema, psoriasis with secondary infection, impetiginized dermatitis, and other localized skin infections with an inflammatory component.
Application should be limited to affected areas, avoiding prolonged use to minimize potential corticosteroid-related adverse effects like skin atrophy, telangiectasia, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression. Use in pediatric patients and pregnant or lactating women should be under medical supervision. Patients should be advised to discontinue use if irritation or sensitization occurs and to consult a healthcare professional for persistent or worsening symptoms.
