Meticet 5 Tablet contains Levocetirizine 5 mg, a third-generation non-sedative antihistamine used primarily for the relief of allergic symptoms. Levocetirizine is the active enantiomer of cetirizine and functions as a selective antagonist of peripheral H1 histamine receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of histamine released during allergic reactions. Meticet 5 is indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, including seasonal and perennial types, as well as chronic idiopathic urticaria characterized by symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, itchy and watery eyes, and skin hives with itching. The medication is well-absorbed orally, with a rapid onset of action, typically within one hour, and provides symptomatic relief for up to 24 hours. It is generally well-tolerated with a low incidence of sedation or anticholinergic side effects compared to earlier antihistamines. Meticet 5 should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. It is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to levocetirizine or any component of the formulation.
