Clotrimazole acts by disrupting the fungal cell membrane permeability through inhibition of ergosterol synthesis, effectively targeting dermatophytes, yeasts, and other susceptible fungi. Metacortil-C Cream is primarily used in conditions such as tinea corporis, tinea cruris, and candidiasis where inflammation and fungal infection coexist. The cream should be applied topically to the affected area once or twice daily as directed by a healthcare professional, avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Treatment duration should be limited to the shortest period necessary to control symptoms to minimize potential corticosteroid-related side effects, including skin atrophy and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression.
