Melanorm-HC Cream is a topical formulation combining Hydroquinone (2% w/w), Tretinoin (0.025% w/w), and Hydrocortisone (1% w/w) designed for the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma, freckles, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone acts as a skin-lightening agent by inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme critical in melanin synthesis, thereby reducing excessive pigmentation. Tretinoin, a retinoid, promotes epidermal cell turnover and enhances the penetration of hydroquinone, facilitating more effective pigment dispersion and skin renewal. Hydrocortisone, a mild corticosteroid, helps to mitigate inflammation and irritation commonly associated with hydroquinone and tretinoin use, improving patient tolerability. Melanorm-HC Cream should be applied once daily, preferably at night, to clean, dry skin on the affected areas. Patients are advised to use sunscreen and limit sun exposure during treatment to prevent further pigmentation and phototoxicity. The combination therapy is typically recommended for short-term use under medical supervision due to potential side effects such as skin irritation, redness, or steroid-related adverse effects.
