Medisalic Ointment is a topical formulation containing Clobetasol propionate 0.05% w/w, a potent corticosteroid, combined with Salicylic Acid 3% w/w, a keratolytic agent. This combination is indicated for the treatment of various inflammatory and hyperkeratotic skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, and lichen planus. Clobetasol exerts strong anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and antiproliferative effects by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators, thereby reducing redness, swelling, and itching. Salicylic Acid facilitates the removal of scales and promotes desquamation by softening and loosening keratin, enhancing the penetration and efficacy of Clobetasol. Medisalic Ointment is typically applied in a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily, depending on the severity and clinical response. Caution is advised to avoid prolonged use or application over large surface areas to minimize the risk of systemic corticosteroid absorption and potential adverse effects such as skin atrophy, telangiectasia, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression.
